Our “wild” kitty OMI adopted us before we adopted her. She had been rescued by our cat-lover Lee. Lee had earned OMI’s trust, but the yard was small and there were other cats there who bullied her. Not good for a very small cat. So OMI spent most of her time across the street in our very large garden, and we got to know each other. Because she was in our yard most of the time, Lee gave us permission to start feeding her and became “ours.” Or we became “hers.”
The three of us have become great friends, mostly on OMI’s terms. We can pet her sometimes, but only for a little while. We can feed her. She sleeps in the very cush bed we have made on the dry porch of one of our sheds. Sometimes when we work in the yard she runs around, hides in the bushes, and plays tag. She peeks in the window when she gets lonely. We have really grown to love her. She has become a wonderful spirit in our garden.
Lee sometimes “pet sits” OMI when we go away. OMI still remembers Lee and will come to visit with her whenever she hears her voice. Lee gives her treats & toys and spends some time playing with our wildcat. OMI likes to be alone, but she does get lonely. Lee is good company for her.

TRULA: Finally….. A safe space
TRULA was adopted by a local farm couple, despite her one blind eye and being feral. She’s the sole survivor of her siblings who were thrown out to fend for themselves. In less than a year, eight spaces. All one after the other closed off to them. Because of properties being sold, fencing put up, intolerant neighbors.
TRULA’s presence, along with their other cats, helps to deter and eliminate vermin. She happily inhabits a corner of the barn at night. Finally….. A safe space where she won’t starve and have to constantly watch out for roaming dogs and mean people.

CHARLIE hangs out with her and her dog when she works with the chickens.
CHARLIE is an inspiration for how a cat can and does adapt. He was a 100% indoor, tiny-apartment cat of a couple with two small children.
Adopted by a chicken farmer nearby after her cat died, CHARLIE hangs out with her and her dog when she works with the chickens. He’s stopped eating the plants when they’re in the house (smile…).

"JASMINE is the purr-fect cat for me! Thanks so much for making the connection, Lee!"
Also, Lee skillfully and compassionately took on the role of end-of-life coach when my beloved cat who painfully suffered from cancer was mercifully euthanized. Lee took on the role of end-of-life coach, helping me to emotionally and practically navigate the process.

"The CATS are now delightful... companions that keep the vermin away from inside."
Lee put me on to twelve week old kittens in need of homes because I had a bit of rat trouble and was looking for true "rat killing" cats to end the problem around my rural livestock property. I told Lee about needing cats willing to go after rats.
Lee said these kitties were born to Sweetie Killer, named for her prowess in searching out & killing every rat who dared to show up at her home. That was what I needed. I adopted the 4 available siblings (with the help of my neighbor), expecting they would stop the rats. I am very grateful to Lee for alerting me to these cats in need that were certainly not strangers with rats!
Because of the influx of coyotes and other serious flying or running predators locally, the cats are now delightful indoor-only companions that keep the vermin away from inside.
